Adding File Attachment SecurityOne of the big problems with previous versions of Outlook Express was that there wasn't much in the way of restricting e-mail attachments.
Since most viruses are being spread through these attachments, the capability is now available to select which ones you want to accept. |
| 1. | Go to Tools / Options / Security |
| 2. | Check Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus |
|
| 3. | If you try an open one of these attachments, you will see a message
OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: filename |
Initially this can restrict more file types than you would like. To be able to turn off the restriction for selected file extensions: |
| 1. | Start the Windows Explorer |
| 2. | Go to Tools / Folder Options |
| 3. | Click on the File Types tab |
| 4. | Scroll to the extension you want to change |
| 5. | Click on the Advanced button |
| 6. | Uncheck Confirm open after download |
| 7. | This will immediately allow you to open attachments with that particular extension. The example below shows the setting to open ZIP files. |
