Issue

An 'Unable to perform the operation ' error message displays on the computer when you attempt to access printer services on a computer running the Firefox Web browser in Windows XP.

Cause

This error occurs because older versions of the product software are incompatible with the Firefox Web browser.

Workaround: Change the default browser to Internet Explorer

To work around the issue, follow these steps to change the default browser to Internet Explorer. This workaround does not resolve the issue , but it does provide a way for you to use your product without further troubleshooting.
  1. Click Start (Microsoft Logo), and then click Control Panel . The Control Panel window opens.
  2. Double-click Internet Options (). The Internet Properties dialog box opens.
  3. Click the Programs tab.
  4. Click the Make default button in the Default web browser area to make Internet Explorer the default web browser.
  5. Click OK to close the Internet Properties dialog box.
  6. Try again to access printer services.

Solution

The latest version of the product software resolves the issue. Follow these steps to download, and then install the latest version of the product software.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer (if you already connected it).
  2. Turn on the product.
  3. Browse to the Get Software and Drivers page:
    Click this link, Get Software and Drivers .
  4. If prompted, type your product number, and then click Next . You might also need to click your model in a list of similar products.
  5. Select your operating system, and then click Next .
  6. Click the Plus sign () next to Driver , and then click the driver that you want to download.
  7. Click More Info , and then read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click View directions () for complete download instructions.
  8. Click Download . This option allows you to install the software at any time after the download completes.
  9. Click Save , and then browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.
  10. Click Save . The software downloads to your computer.
    Hint: Make a note of the place that you saved the file, in case you want to install it at a later time.
  11. Browse to where you saved the file, and then double-click the file to start the installation.
  12. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  13. Try again to access printer services.
